The first meeting of the working group regarding the issues of providing ecological safety and international cooperation in the field
of environmental protection in the development of the Arctic shelf took place at the office of the Association of suppliers for oil and gas industry Murmanshelf
in Murmansk on the 15th of May 2013.

The meeting was attended by:

Raisa Ripacheva, Murmansk Centre for Standardization, Metrology and Certification
Dmitry Demchenko, Regional Headquater of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation
Vasily Korenev, The North branch of the Baltic Basin Emergency and Rescue Management

It was decided at the meeting to elect Head of the working group and Deputy Head and Deputy Head of the working group.
Alexander Glazov, director of LLC "Ecocentre" was elected Head of the working group and Olga Sarkova, executive director of LLC "IS-Systems"
was elected Deputy Head of the working group.
Olga Sarkova spoke about participation of the working group in the "RU-NO Barents" project
(Russian-Norwegian oil and gas industry cooperation in the High North) at the meeting.
A work plan was accepted and the date of the next meeting was defined.The next meeting of the working group will be held on the 6th of June 2013.

Reference
There is a large-scale development of oil and gas fields and also increased industrial activity on the Arctic shelf in the Barents Euro-Arctic Region.
In this connection challenges to ensure environmental security issues inevitably arise, including the implementation of joint projects on environmental protection with the partner-countries of the Russian Federation.

In April 2013 the Board of the Association Murmanshelf decided to create a working group regarding the issues of ecological safety
and international cooperation in the field of environmental protection in the development of the Arctc shelf.
The main goals of the creation of the working group:
Unification of the professional and administrative resources of the region in the field of environmental protection;the most effective use of the specialists' competence to solve the problems of environmental protection during the implementation of activities on the Arcit shelf, including questions of international
cooperation and joint initiatives.
The main tasks of the working group:
- coordination of the interaction of professional and administrative resources of the region in the field of environmental protection
-monitoring and harmonizing the Russian and foreign rules and regulations
-development and promotion of regional legislative initiatives in the fields of environmental protection of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region
-development and support of the regional, national and international projects aimed at the protection of ecological safety on the Arctic shelf
-organization and coordination of practical interaction with the professional companies and organizations of the partner-countries whose activity is aimed at the environmental protection on the Arctic shelf
